HVSU-CII Organise Sports Sector Leadership Meet


Guru garam : 8 March | Haryana Vishwakarma Skill University in collaboration with CII  organized a meet of sports industry and sports management organizations on today at  HARTRON at Gurugram. The occasion was graced by Shri Raj Nehru, Hon,ble Vice Chancellor as Chief Guest and Dr. Sunil Dabas, Padma Shri and  Dronacharya awardee  as Guest of Honour. About 35 delegates from sports sector – training, management, media and marketing participated in the event. 

Speaking on the occasion Shri Raj Nehru shared that the Haryana State is known for its National and International achievements in the field of sports. He emphasised that sports play a significant role in holistic development of a person especially in the areas of decision-making, risk taking ability and team work. He added that there is a requirement to minimize gap between academia and sports by making sports sector equally attractive in terms of employment opportunities.  Citing the reference to youth aspiration survey carried out by  HVSU last year he said that sports was the first preference of the youth of the State. HVSU is initiating a sports management programme with an aim to train at least 100 students per year.

Dr. Mrs Sunil Dabas emphasis Haryana State has a lot of potential in sports sectors, which can be channelised through skilling the youth of the State.  The University and Industry can work together and ensure that sector attains self-sustainability and opens up job avenues. She added that the sports infrastructure in terms of stadium, sports training institutes, trained coaches, and equipment needs to be built up to attain parity with other Asian nations.

Dr Neeta Pradhan, Director CII stressed on the need of imbibing sports as way of life and informed that 20000 schools under the CBSE in the country shall have one-hour sports period for every student daily.  

In the brainstorming session that followed, it emerged that trained workforce at each level  for organizing various league events is sorely lacking. The delegates were of the opinion that to strengthen sports management system sports industry – academia partnership is required. It Shri Raj Nehru announced that HVSU shall soon launch a diploma course in sports management, which will be for the sports sector and by the sports sector in true sense. HVSU would design a Duel Education Skilling model with sports industry where the trainees shall learn through an ideal mix of classroom and on-the-job-training. 
The meet concluded with suggestions to strengthen the skill eco-system of Haryana through skills programmes.
