Manika, Sutirtha make winning starts at World Singles Qualification Tournament

 Mumbai, March 14, 2021: Ace India paddlers Manika Batra and Sutirtha Mukherjee began their quest for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics berth on winning note as the duo registered comfortable straight-set victories in their respective women's singles knockout stage-I opening round matches at the World Singles Qualification Tournament in Doha on Sunday.

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist Batra dominated Bulgaria’s Maria Yovkova during her 11-5, 11-7, 11-4, 11-0 win. While Mukherjee faced some resistance from her opponent Lisa Lung in the fourth game but it was too late for Italian as Mukherjee wrapped the game as well as the match 11-3, 11-5, 11-7, 12-10 in her favour.  

Meanwhile, Achanta Sharath Kamal and Gnanasekaran Sathiyan suffered defeats against Italian opponents in their respective men's singles opening matches. While Sathiyan lost to Mihai Bobocica 11-7, 11-6, 11-8, 11-5, seasoned campaigner Sharath also couldn’t manage hold edge over Niagol Stoyanov as he went down fighting 11-9, 6-11, 8-11, 4-11, 11-8, 10-12. Both the Indians had received bye in the opening round.

With four Indians participating in the ongoing qualification event, where a total of nine (four men and five women) places are up for grabs and scheduled from March 14-17. In the men’s category, players are split into three knockout rounds with the winner of each knockout round earning himself a place in the singles event at the Tokyo Olympics. While the losing finalist and semi-finalists from each of the three knockouts, will be drawn into another knockout stage and the winner will secure the remaining one spot.

For the women’s category, entries are split into four knockouts with the winner of each knockout securing a spot in singles at the Tokyo Olympics. However, losing finalist from each of the four knockouts will fight for the remaining single berth as they will participate in the second stage where they will be drawn into a final knockout and the winner will make it to the Olympics.

Later tonight in the women’s second round matches, Batra will take on Uzbekistan’s Rimma Gufranova while Sutirtha will face a challenge from Russian Polina Mikhailova.

Sharath loses in pre-quarters at WTT Star Contender Doha

Mumbai, March 11: Paddler Achanta Sharat Kamal’s impressive run at the WTT Star Contender Doha came to an end after the Indian suffered a 9-11, 8-11, 6-11 defeat at the hands of World No. 12 Dimitrij Ovtcharov in the men’s singles pre-quarterfinals match on Wednesday.

The World No. 32 Sharath, who surprised World No. 16 Germany’s Patrick Franziska in the last round, started the game well and gave a tough fight to his relatively higher-ranked German opponent as the first two games of the match went neck-to-neck before the London Olympics bronze medalist Ovtcharov turning the momentum in his favour. The German further capitalised on the 2-0 lead and wrapped up the match to enter the quarter-final stage.

With Sharath's defeat, Indian participation at the tournament came to an end. Earlier, Gnanasekaran Sathiyan and Manika Batra made second round exits in their respective singles categories.

जे.सी. बोस विश्वविद्यालय में निःशुल्क स्वास्थ्य शिविर का आयोजन

फरीदाबाद, 11 मार्च - स्वास्थ्य को लेकर जागरूकता पैदा करने के उद्देश्य से जे.सी. बोस विज्ञान एवं प्रौद्योगिकी विश्वविद्यालय, वाईएमसीए, फरीदाबाद द्वारा स्थानीय एसएसबी हार्ट एंड मल्टीस्पेशलिटी हॉस्पिटल, फरीदाबाद के सहयोग से आज निःशुल्क स्वास्थ्य जांच शिविर का आयोजन किया गया, जिसमें विद्यार्थियों को विभिन्न बीमारियों से बचाव के उपायों के बारे में जानकारी दी गई। 

कुलपति प्रो दिनेश कुमार ने चिकित्सा केंद्र द्वारा विश्वविद्यालय के विद्यार्थियों और कर्मचारियों के लाभ के लिए स्वास्थ्य जागरूकता कार्यक्रम संचालित करने के लिए किए गए प्रयासों की सराहना की। कार्यक्रम को चिकित्सा अधिकारी डॉ. अंकुर शर्मा के देखरेख में सफलतापूर्वक आयोजित किया गया। कुलपति प्रो. दिनेश कुमार तथा कुलसचिव डाॅ. सुनील कुमार गर्ग ने शिविर का जायजा भी लिया।

एसएसबी हार्ट एंड मल्टीस्पेशलिटी हॉस्पिटल, फरीदाबाद के तीन चिकित्सकों की टीम, जिसमें हृदय रोग विशेषज्ञ डाॅ. मोहित अग्रवाल, हड्डी रोग विशेषज्ञ डॉ. शैलेंद्र प्रताप सिंह तथा डाॅ. अनूपम कुमार वासने शामिल थे, ने विद्यार्थियों तथा कर्मचारियों को हृदय रोग, आर्थोपेडिक और स्पोट्र्स इंजुरी से रोकथाम, निदान और उपचार के बारे में बताया तथा उनकी चिकित्सा जांच एवं स्वास्थ्य परामर्श प्रदान किया। इसके अलावा, मधुमेह, उच्च रक्तचाप तथा हड्डी संबंधी रोगों को लेकर जागरूकता पैदा करने के लिए ब्लड प्रेशर चेक-अप, ब्लड शुगर चेक-अप, ईसीजी, बीडीएम हड्डियों की जांच के लिए बीएमडी टेस्ट निःशुल्क किए गए। स्वास्थ्य शिविर में लगभग 200 से अधिक विद्यार्थियों एवं कर्मचारियों ने हिस्सा लिया तथा लाभ उठाया।

FARIDABAD : 8 MARCH I फरीदाबाद जिला किकबॉक्सिंग संघ' द्वारा फाइटिंग फिट प्लेनेट प्रशिक्षण केद्र, अचीवर्स शॉपिंग माल,  सेक्टर-49, फरीदाबाद में 'भारत विकास परिषद् माधव शाखा' एवं 'क्रीड़ा भारती फरीदाबाद' के सहयोग से दिनांक 8 मार्च को 'विश्व महिला दिवस' के अवसर पर "महिला आत्मरक्षा जागरूकता प्रशिक्षण शिविर" का आयोजन किया गया । 'हरियाणा किकबॉक्सिंग संघ' के संस्थापक महासचिव श्री संतोष कुमार अग्रवाल के नेतृत्व में फरीदाबाद से महिला किकबॉक्सिंग प्रशिक्षिका श्रीमती अंजू शर्मा एवं अजय कुमार सैनी, श्री पंकज कुमार एवं श्री सचिन कुमार प्रशिक्षण उपस्थित थे।

फाइटिंग फिट प्लेनेट के संचालक विकास अग्रवाल ने बताया कि इस अवसर पर महिलाओं ने बढ़ चढ़ कर हिस्सा लिया आत्म सुरक्षा ,योगा , फिटनेस के गुर सीखे । इस मोके पर हरियाणा किकबॉक्सिंग संघ के संस्थापक एवं महासचिव श्री संतोष कुमार अग्रवाल ने आनंद मेहता को फूलों का गुलदस्ता देकर सम्मानित किया ।

India finish with 10 medals including one gold at Boxam International

New Delhi, March 07, 2021: Continuing his splendid run in the tournament Manish Kaushik clinched the gold medal as Indian boxers concluded their impressive campaign at the Boxam International Tournament with 10 medals in Castellon, Spain.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medallist Kaushik, who returned into the ring for the first time after the Asian Olympic Qualifiers held in March last year, beat Denmark’s Nikolai Terteryan with a split 3-2 decision in the men’s 63kg summit bout. However, the World Championship bronze medallist Vikas Krishan went down fighting 4-1 against local favourite Ndiaye Sissokho to settle for silver medal in the men’s 69kg.

Meanwhile in the women’s category, Asian champion Pooja Rani lost to Word Championships bronze medallist USA’s Naomi Graham 5-0 in the 75kg final while young Jasmine, who was playing her maiden senior international tournament, showed great attacking display but couldn’t hold edge over 2019 European Champion Irma Testa of Italy and settle for a silver in the 57kg after going down 0-5 in the final.

The other five silver medals for the country were secured by Simranjit Kaur (60kg), Mohammed Hussamuddin (57), Ashish Kumar (75kg), Sumi Sangwan (81kg) and Satish Kumar (+91kg).

Ashish had to withdraw from the final after he was tested positive for COVI-19 while rest four boxers also withdrew from the tournament as precautionary measure because of their proximity to boxers who have turned positive.

Earlier Mary Kom settled for bronze after her semi-final exit. A 14-member (8 men and 6 women) Indian contingent had participated in the 35th edition of the Boxam International Tournament. The team will be reaching back in India on Monday afternoon.
