Delhi Juniors win Silver Medal in first ever Mixed Trap Shooting Event at National Level


New Delhi :20 November I 61st National Shooting Championship Competitions (61st NSCC) being held in Delhi’s Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, from 14-25 November 2017 mark a departure from earlier such competitions as Mixed Events were organized for the first time at the national level, in line with the decision of The International Shooting Sports Federation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The mixed events were added by the ISSF after the body axed men's 50m pistol, 50m rifle prone and double trap events from the Olympics cycle to accommodate International Olympic Committee's agenda of gender equality at the Games.

At the ongoing 61st National Shooting Championship Competitions, Delhi’s 15 year old Vibhhu Sharma and Saumya Gupta represented Delhi State Rifle Association and won Silver Medal. 

Vibhhu Sharma has been part of Top-12 National Squad Junior Shooters since his first National Championship in 2013. Vibhhu Sharma also scored his personal best of 113/125.

In the Junior Men’s Trap, Vibhhu Sharma was third to qualify for the finals with a score of 113 in qualifications, which was topped by Rajasthan’s Aman Ali Elahi with a score of 116. Interestingly 15-year-old Vibhhu Sharma equated the score of this year’s Gold medalist Lakshay Sheoran of Haryana.

Vibhhu Sharma, currently studying in Class Xth at Sanskriti School, New Delhi is a keen learner and has equal interest in academics, music, and sports. He had recently won Sanskriti School’s Sarvocch Puruskar for academic achievements in all subjects. Vibhhu feels that the sport of shooting has helped him become strong willed and determined to excel not just in sports but academics too. Vibhhu is an avid runner, runs 8 Kms every day. Vibhhu was also Awarded ABRSM Trophy for distinction in Music and Piano conducted by The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London.

Vibhhu feels that the sport of shooting has helped him become strong willed and determined to excel not just in sports but academics too. Vibhhu is an avid runner, runs 8 Kms every day.
